I do, indeed, have celiac. It’s good to know and I’m happy it’s not something untreatable but I’m sure I’m going to have emotional ups and downs with it. A lot of changes have to happen – both in how I live and in my body. I don’t know how this will affect my weightloss plans either.
I went on a gluten-free diet last week, after my blood test samples were taken and I CAN tell you that I feel a ton better. Each day is a little better than the day before. The weird thing is that I still keep trying to “listen” for signs my body is acting badly or that I’m going to have to race to the bathroom – and NOTHING.
My naturopath warned me it could take a month just to adjust to the diet and another 5 months to heal.
As I work through this gluten-free journey, I have been posting information and recipes on Yasmine Galenorn’s food blog – Gluten-Free Kitchen Witch. I put a couple of yummy recipes up there already.

*hugs* It sucks to have an incurable (even if not untreatable) condition, though… I’m sorry to hear you have celiac. I know what it’s like to have dietary restrictions out the ears, and the emotional ups and downs, as well. Some days, just getting out of bed is a chore.
by Esther Mitchell January 22nd, 2010 at 10:41 amI’m so glad you’ve figured out what is wrong! It isn’t an easy adjustment to make (I used to work with someone who has celiac) but once you get going you’ll really notice the difference!

Glad to hear you’re starting to feel better.
As for the emotional ups and downs…I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue so I definately understand.
I’m here if you need someone to talk to.
Hugs,

Hi Maura,
Rebecca (of the stripey tights) from ECWC last October. I am so sorry to hear that you have developed celiac, but I am glad to see that you are taking a very proactive approach to it. Best of luck with that:)
And I hope 2010 is much less stressful for you. It would truly be a pleasure to read some more of your wonderful fiction. I am very much looking forward to it.
Take care,

Of course I remember you, Rebecca! I am actually feeling quite a bit better and learning what I can and cannot have. Hopefully as it goes on, the shopping and cooking will take less time and I’ll have more time for other things – like Writing!
by Maura Anderson February 13th, 2010 at 10:28 pmHi Tambra – thanks for the encouragement. These sort of “invisible” but chronic conditions can be hard but I’m determined.
