Futhark Rune Series - Eihwaz, Perthro and Algiz

You’ll all be glad (I think) to know that I got my splint off after hand surgery two weeks ago and am on my way back to normal function. This means I can type more!)

EIHWAZ	Eihwaz is the rune of steadfastness. It stands for strength, dependability, reliablity and can mean a good defense and setting achievable goals.
PERTHRO	Perthro is the rune of mystery and hidden meanings. It may stand for the paranormal, especially knowledge of future matters but can also stand for the feminine and feminine mysteries.
ALGIZ	Algiz is the rune of protection. It’s a shield that can guard and ward off evil. It can also mean you need to follow your instincts or guard positions or things you’ve achieved.

Futhark Rune Series - Nauthiz, Isa and Jera

NAUTHIZ	Nauthiz is the rune of delays and lacking. It can stand for a sort of trial-by-fire with need bringing forth strength and innovation. Nauthiz can also indicate that it’s a time to face your fears and welcome change that begins within yourself. It can also indicate a need for patience.
ISA	Isa is the rune of frustration and standstill. Isa tends to emphasize the runes around it but can also indicate the need to turn your attention inward.
JERA	Jera is a rune that speaks to the culmination of events that began earlier. It can be a sign of peace and happiness and prosperity.

Futhark Rune Series - Gebo, Wunjo and Hagalaz

GEBO	Gebo is the rune of sacrifice and generosity but also speaks to exchanges like contracts, trades, partnerships and cooperation. Gebo tends to be the rune of gifts.
WUNJO	Wunjo is the rune of joy, excitement, exhiliration and pleasure. It can also mean excess.
HAGALAZ	Hagalaz is a rune of destruction, of forces of chaos. It can be both external, like the weather or natural disasters but can also mean the subconscious.

Futhark Rune Series - Ansuz, Raidho and Kenaz

ANSUZ	Ansuz is the rune of messages and communication. It can be messages or wisdom received from any source, including deity. Ansuz is centered around listening to messages and seeing true wisdom where it may exist. It can also include blessings.
RAIDHO	Raidho is the rune of travel, following it’s old meaning of wagon or chariot. But this can indicate both physical travel as well as changes in lifestyle or professional direction. It may also indicate a need to see the larger picture before making a change in direction.
KENAZ	Kenaz is a rune whose original meaning is beacon or torch and it tends to be an accelerant. It can indicate the fires of creativity, revelation, new strength or new energy. It may stand for a need to open yourself to those things as well.

Futhark Rune Series - Fehu, Uruz and Thurisaz

FEHU	Fehu is the rune of wealth. Traditionally it stands for cattle and cattle were a symbol of wealth. But this is not necessarily wealth in the typical sense of actual money but can also be plentitude of other things. This could also refer to the ability to create or generate wealth in some way. Fehu can also represent fertility and happiness.
URUZ	Ursuz has a traditional meaning of oxen but is mostly used as a symbol of an energy or potential that is not in use, has not been tamed or harnessed. This can also refer to personal health or vitality. It’s also used to refer to sexual desire and masculine potency.
THURISAZ	Thurisaz is a rune of conflict but can often be protection from conflict. It’s important to realize that this is not battle or war and can include your subconscious conflicts, internal moral conflicts. All types of conflicts. Thurisaz can also indicate a purging or cleansing fire.

Futhark Runes Series - Ideas on How to Use Them

I’ve decided to talk a little about ways to use the Futhark runes before I go into the meanings and interpretation of each one. I’ll warn you in advance, though, that I’m stating my OWN beliefs and uses and those may vary from person to person. With all tools like this, it’s important to experiment and see just how that tool or theory fits your personality and your needs as well as your own belief system.

Like many things, one size does not fit all.

Mystical Monday - Mercury Retrograde

I am so glad tomorrow is the last day of Mercury being retrograde for a while. Mercury retrograde started on January 28th and continues to February 19th for this event.

In astrology, Mercury goes retrograde when it appears to move backwards on its path because of the combined movements of the Earth and Mercury on their orbits around the sun. It doesn’t REALLY move backwards. This happens three times a year for about three weeks at a time.

Mercury itself is an air sign and it tends to rule thoughts, ideas and communication. When Mercury goes retrograde it becomes a good time for looking inside ourselves. Introspection, self-examination, re-reading or re-working. These are all good things to do at this time.

But Mercury retrograde always seems to lead to communication problems, plans falling through, misunderstandings and problems for me. Several things that were on a deadline and needed to be done kept meeting with delay after delay. Nothing so terrible that it could not be overcome or adjusted for, just things that seemed to take forever. Some things I’d been led to believe would happen have suddenly reversed course.

Mercury retrograde periods are just plain FRUSTRATING! LOL

I’m glad Mercury is going back to direct movement now. I’ve had about as much as I can take. Now I just need to remember this for the next two times, at least, and try to not just bully my way through. Maybe a nice vacation or something.
